Ogunkanmi, a psychologist and certified emotional intelligence, anger management and fear mastery coach, said the free workshop for parents scheduled for April 27th will be handing over effective tools to raise their children and learn the different between discipline child and punishing a child and also about self-care.

She said every child needs emotional stability, mental and physical fitness, adding that they would also teach and educate parents on why they should pay attention to their children, and how to manage stress while raising them.

“As parents, you have to learn how to overlook some things and also how to apply discipline when necessary and at such time, you shouldn’t be partial but treat the children equally. Learn to shape your children in the right way by also accepting their decision in the area of future carrier rather than compelling them to do what you want because they all have their area of strength and weaknesses. Don’t truncate their future but observe them, understand their skills and help develop them.”

The organisation also engages in self-care strategy to teach parents how to take care of themselves and not be worked up in handling issues that relate to their children. “Many parents transfer aggression to their children especially when they are stressed up but when you take care of yourself and your emotions you will know how to train your children better,” she said.

Mrs. Ogunkanmi who authored the book, Smart Parenting also said, they decided to focused on parents rather than the children because parents are the one that decide to have the children in the first place and they need emotional, physical and economic stability to raise the children thereby urging parents to learn understand their children in the area of language, strength, weaknesses, talent and others.

She added that instructors will cover different areas of interest will be at the workshop to help parents understand better and the book will also be available for those that may need it.

The Managing Editor, Media Trust, Mal Nasir Imam who received the team on behalf of the organisation said they are in the right place in seeking partnership on a way forward in effective parenting.

He urged the support system to buy into other title of the Media trust to showcase whatever they have while promising that they should be sure of effective coverage at the coming workshop.
