Aiyetoro-Gbede Global Network (AGN), a community development driven-platform of  prominent sons and daughters of Ayetoro-Gbede in Ijumu LGA of Kogi State, has given a facelift to the community’s high school after many years in a state of dilapidation.

The group at the weekend commissioned three blocks of 12 classrooms it renovated at Ayetoro-Gbede Community High School as part of its contributions to the educational development of the area.

President of the network, Mr. Oladele Oyelola, explained that the group which currently consists of 65 members, was formed as a “self-help” platform with the focus of providing developmental supports to the community in education, healthcare, infrastructure and economic empowerment.

The platform he said has members who are professionals in the fields of Medicine, Law, Journalism, Accountancy, Academics, Banking, Architecture and Engineering amongst others who are spread across Nigeria, USA, Canada, UK, and Belgium.

He said the AGN members were building on the foundation of “self-help” culture and foresight of their forefathers and thus complementing government efforts in the area of socio-economic development.

“As a group, we choose our projects/programs annually and execute them using a combination of funds from members and friends for specific project,” he said.

He said in the area of health, a total of 4,819 persons were treated free during a-three day medical outreach organised for people of Ayetoro by a member of AGN, Dr Sam Oloyo.

He said 600 pairs of medicated glasses were given out free during the medical outreach.

Chairman of the occasion, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) in his speech said the school renovation was the first phase of the project, adding that the second phase would focus on providing furniture, water and toilet facilities.

He urged indigenes of Ayetoro-Gbede to join hands with the group in uplifting the level of development in the area, adding that the people cannot continue to wait for government to bring the much needed development.

Principal of the school, Mrs Olorunsaiye Ige, lauded AGN for the renovation, saying it would go a long way in ensuring conducive atmosphere for both teaching and learning.

The Olu of Aiyetoro-Gbede, Oba Sunday Ehindero, expressed great joy that such “monumental development” was happening during his reign.

Highlights of the event were donations by individuals towards the  development of infrastructure in the community school.
