Group debunks hijacking of Gov Bello by Igala

A group under the aegis of Kogi East Youth Alliance for Good Governance (KEYAGG) has debunked the claim credited to the Ohinoyi of Ebira Land, Alhaji Ado Ibrahim, that the Igala have hijacked Gov. Yahaya Bello to their advantage in the leadership of the state.

The group, in a statement signed by its President, Mr. Desmond Anawo, described the purported claim as not only an open indictment of the Igala, but was frivolous, unfounded and misleading.

The group noted that such a statement from a highly respected royal leader would amount to sowing seed of discord and fanning the embers of disunity between the Igala and the Ebira.

According to the statement, “The claim of the Ohinoyi is a complete falsehood in its entirety, capable of sending the wrong signal to the outside world.

“Before the present political misadventure which has polarised the people along partisan lines, the Igala and the Ebira had a long-standing history of peaceful coexistence.

“The Igala and the Ebira have a proven and cherished history of common ancestral ties and affinity that should not be strained by anybody no matter how highly placed.”

The group alleged that the Igala were being made to play the second fiddle under the current dispensation, pointing out that going by the 1963 census, the Igala were the ninth largest ethnic group in Nigeria (56 per cent of the population of Kogi State).

The group, therefore, called for the intervention of the Federal Government in the security situation in Kogi East, adding that people could no longer sleep with their eyes closed.
