The Executive Governor of Zamfara state and chairman Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Alhaji  Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar has expressed concerns over the recent  pockets of attacks on some communities in the state.

He said the attacks by some gunmen in the last few weeks in Bakura, Maradun and some parts of  Anka local Government Areas  by the gunmen called for  a total condemnation and is unacceptable.

Zamfara state has enjoyed relative peace after a peace deal  between the bandits and the local vigilantes was brokered  in December 2016 by the state government under the leadership of the deputy governor Alhaji Ibrahim Wakkala Muhammad.

But, there were  pockets of deadly raids on some communities believed  to have  been carried out by some defiant  armed bandits thus threatening the peace process.

Briefing the newsmen shortly after an emergency security meeting summoned by the Executive Governor on Tuesday, the  state Deputy Governor, Mal Ibrahim Wakkala, said the state security council also condemned the attacks and had  resolved to take proactive security measures to deal with the situation.

He said the security council resolved to continue with the peace dialogue embarked upon by the state last year, which led to the restoration of law and order in the state adding that the council also resolved to employ the services of more security Agents such as police, Army and other security operatives to deal with the recent situation.

"It  is agreed to deal ruthlessly, with any warring faction that refuses to accept the peace dialogue and the implementation of the  agreements reached during the peace talks," he added.

The council also announced the transfer of the commanding officer, 223 light tank Battalion Gusau, Lt Col Abdullahi Adamu and his replacement with Lt Col Muhammed Ibrahim Jibrin.
