Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State, governorship candidate of the PDP, Sen. Aisha Alhassan, immediate past minister of Women Affairs and candidate of United Democratic Party (UDP), and Alhaji Sani Danladi of the APC were absent, yesterday, at the peace accord signing ceremony.
The signing of the peace accord took place at the Taraba State Police Command headquarters in Jalingo.
However, 14 other governorship candidates, including Mr Kefas Sule of Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), who is contesting on the platform of All Blended Party (ABP) signed the peace pact.
The representatives of Governor Darius and Hajiya Alhassan were not allowed to sign the peace accord as the meeting insisted that each candidate must sign in person.
The APC candidate had no representative at the meeting.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr David Akinremi, who presided over the signing of theĀ accord, said the aim was to commit the governorship candidates for peaceful conduct of the election.
Akinremi pledged that the police and other security agencies would be neutral, adding that all political parties would be given equal protection before, during after the elections.
The police commissioner urged the parties to conduct themselves well and avoid violence during and after the elections.
In his remark, Alhaji Baba Yusuf, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state pledged the determination and commitment of theĀ umpire to give all parties a level playing ground.
