Gombe state Varsity graduates 51 first class students

The Vice Chancellor of the Gombe State University (GSU), Professor Ibrahim Musa Umar on Thursday said 51 out of the 3, 958 graduating students of the university, passed out with First Class degrees.

Professor Umar disclosed this during the third pre-convocation press briefing ahead of the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th combined convocation ceremony of the university, for the award of first degrees, postgraduate diplomas, higher degrees and prizes.
 
He said 864 students got second class upper, 1, 945 second class lower, 1, 038 graduated with third class, while 60 bagged a pass degree.
 
The vice chancellor explained that those that graduated with pass degree were admitted in 2013 session, before the abolition of the pass degree by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
 
He added that for the first time, the university will be graduating 37 students that bagged post-graduate diploma in education and four students with master’s degree in physics.
 
He also said the university will confer honorary doctorate degrees on the chancellor and Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Hajiya Amina J. Mohammed, Chief Christopher Kolade and Group Managing Director of Access Bank PLC, Mr Herbert Wigwe.
 
Umar said the convocation lecture with a theme on social reform will be delivered on Friday (tomorrow) by the Emir Kano, Malam Muhammad Sanusi II.
