The Gombe State Chapter of the Igbo Community Welfare Association (ICWA) at the weekend inaugurated new executives to steer its affairs.
The new executives were inaugurated following an election that saw the emergence as Sir Benneth Aronu as the new president of the state chapter of the ICWA.
North East Trust reports that the event was attended by Igbo traditional leaders in the state, prominent Igbo businessmen women, representatives of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, representatives of the state Commissioner of Police and the Commandant of the Nigerian Security Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) among other dignitaries.
In his speech, the out gone president, Chief Kenneth Okeugo, said during his tenure the association has established an Igbo language programme named Swaigbo to help promote the language
He said the Swaigbo was established following a prediction by the United Nation that some languages, including the Igbo, would within the next fifty years.
According to him, the programme was a success with over 200 adult and children participating in the first phase.
Chief Okeugo added that his tenure also recorded improvement in relation between the association and the state government as well as Emirate Councils in the state.
This, he added, led to the appointments of four Igbos as Senior Special Assistants and Special Advisers by Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo.
In his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated president, Sir Benneth Aronu, promised to improve the standard of education among Igbo community living in the state.
He pledged to organize seminars to deliberate on ways to improve the lives of members residing in the state.
