Get involved in oil industry reform, NCDMB boss tells lawyers

Nigerian Lawyers have been told to get more involved in the ongoing reforms in the Oil and Gas Industry.

The Executive Secretary of Nigezdxrian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB),  Engr Simbi Wabote, made the call at the just concluded 58th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association in Abuja, a statement said yesterday.

Speaking on the topic, ‘Managing Transition and Transformation of Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Industry’, Wabote said “I believe lawyers have a big role to play. First, they need to get more involved in the development of the laws and regulations; and secondly, aim to keep the emerging legal regime simple for easy implementation and compliance.”

The statement by Naboth Onyesoh, Manager Corporate Communications of NCDMB, said the Executive Secretary said in providing legal advisory to their client, he also appealed to members of the NBA to first explore peaceful resolution of oil and gas disputes  and advise “their clients to resort to out of court settlements.”

He noted that “Long drawn legal battles are killers of great initiatives and sow the seeds of bitterness in the business environment.”
