The Waziri is next in position to the emir in traditional settings across many parts of northern Nigeria.

However, in Dutse Emirate of Jigawa State, the Waziri is third in hierarchy as the Galadima is second. But despite being third in the traditional set-up, the Waziri of Dutse Emirate is not only a kingmaker but its leader.

Apart from leading the kingmakers, the office of Waziri is also in-charge of Ulamas (Islamic clerics), Sharia Judges and Imams in the emirate.

Hence, it was no surprised that Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, was agog as a former Minister of Power, Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu, was turbaned as the new Waziri by the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Nuhu Mohammed Sanusi.

Alhaji Dalhatu was appointed following the demise of the former Waziri, Air Vice Marshal ABM Muktar, (rtd) who was also an elder brother to the new Waziri.

Alhaji Dalhatu is the second person to be Waziri in Dutse Emirate because prior to the creation of Jigawa State the emirate was not in existence.

In his remark at the epoch-making event, the Emir of Dutse, charged the new Waziri to be more committed to the course of the emirate and that as the most senior councillor and leader of the kingmakers he should lead by example by ensuring thoroughness and fairness while discharging his duties.

He added that his choice as Waziri was not unconnected to his wealth of experience and his level of commitment to the development of the emirate.

“The emirate did a thorough assessment to arrive at the decision to appoint you for this noble position. Your personality, integrity and commitment for the overall interest of the emirate as well as your wealth of experience made you the most qualified as for this noble office,” the emir said.

Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, Senator Sabo Nakudu, Senator Danladi Sankara, Kano State Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji and host of other personalities graced the occasion.
