Foundation provides medical care to Katampe residents

When in Need Foundation (WIN), an NGO based in Nigeria and US, has carried out free medical tests and administered drugs to the people of Katampe ll, Mpape Abuja. The foundation also gave out foodstuffs to the less privileged.

The CEO of WIN, Mrs Chetachi Ecton, who led the outreach told our reporters that government needed to do more in providing health care to the poor.

She said: “The motive behind the free medical outreach and feeding is to be able to support humanity. I actually know what it is not to have, what it is when someone is hungry and does not have food to eat. My intention is just to serve humanity.”

One of the doctors who was on the medical team, Dr. Nwoga,  said they wanted to attend to about 3,000 less privileged people in the community and counsel them on how to prevent some of the illnesses prevalent in communities like that.

He also said the food provided for them would help them   to take their drugs when they got home, adding that the residents were tested for malaria, HIV, eye screening, pregnancy and High Blood Pressure.

The project coordinator of WIN, Mr Chumkwuma Okere, said Katampe II was chosen for the outreach after a need assessment was carried out on the community and it was discovered that the health centre there did not have medical staff.

“When we visited the community the matron of the health centre told us that they don’t have medical doctors at the clinic that they operate with Adhoc staff and we felt there is need for us to provide medical outreach to the community,” he said.
