A non-governmental organization, Oma Life Rescue Foundation, has empowered 250 rural dwellers in Benue State with skills acquisition items for self-reliance.
Founder of the organisation, Dr. Omanibe Ani, said the gesture, which is in partnership with Benue State government, was intended to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged and to help them build a positive economy for their families.
She said the beneficiaries drawn from the 23 local government areas of the state, would each return to their locality with the items such as vehicle, motorcycle, tricycle, grinding engine, sewing machine and hairdressing equipment among others.
Ani said the idea would help to reduce unemployment among the teeming jobless people at the grassroots as well as curb social vices among the youths.
In his speech, the Special Adviser, Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in the state, Jerome Torshimbe, urged the beneficiaries to strictly abide by the terms under which they benefitted from the programme.
Torshimbe added that the present administration in the state was poised to deliver more community development projects to people of the grassroots in order to better their lives.
