Stakeholders have advised communities in the downstream and upstream of Shiroro Dam in Niger State to take precautions against flood as the season approaches its peak.
Speaking during the 2019 annual stakeholders sensitisation meeting at the Shiroro Dam headquarters Wednesday, they warned that flood pattern would likely change between July and October.
The meeting, organized by the North South Power Company Limited,
was attended by experts in the field of Hydrology, Meteorology, Reservoir, Environmental Management and Disaster Management.
The meeting said there would be inflow of flood which might force the power station to release water to avert possible collapse of the dam.
The Chief Operating Officer of NSPCL, Ugochukwu Chioke, said that the power station placed high importance on safety of lives and property, hence the need for early sensitisation and awareness.
Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, represented by Amb. Haruna Manta, advised the management of the power station to allow members of the communities to harness natural resources around the dam.
