Aldusar Gas Nigeria Limited has entered into a mutual agreement with the Katsina State Government and the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to provide cooking gas, cylinders and other equipment to civil servants.
The workers are to repay for the items in three installments.
The aim of the agreement is to discourage the use of firewood by civil servants.
Speaking at the commencement of exercise, the state Head of Service, Idris Tune, represented by Permanent Secretary, Lawal Ado said government has for long tried to address environmental degradation by ensuring best safe practices noting that this collaboration was a surest way to achieving that.
The President, Aldusar Group, Muhammadu Usman Sarki said it is more economical and healthier to use gas for cooking.
About 1000 workers have since applied for the pilot phase of the scheme which will later be extended to workers at the 34 local government areas of the state.
