Rlg Communication, an indigenous information communication telecommunication outfit, came to the Nigeria two years ago after successful stint in Ghana and Gambia.
The chief operating officer Latilo Taiwo said the company invested over 10 million dollars on the project.
He said it was the first ICT soft and hardware manufacturer to build an assembly plant in the Nigeria.
Giving insight into how the plant will operate, Latilo said about 7, 500 devices that will include 5,000 mobile phones and 2,500 computer sets and tablets will be assembled daily.
He said when fully operational, the plant will create over 10,000 jobs, explaining that the motive behind establishing the plant was to empower people rather than selling the product only.
“We have already trained 500 youths that will work on the phone and computer assembling plant in Ghana and another batch of youths are due for training in Ghana also,” he said.
“Presently, the components that will be assembled will come from our partner in China but as part of our extension plan, in five years time, we intend to manufacture the components here and create more jobs for the people.
“Also, the plant in Ilesa is not meant to serve Osun state or Nigeria alone but we intend to export the products to other African countries in near future,” he said.
Latilo said the company also have a training center called rlg institute of technology that will train and empower people in fulfillment of its corporate social responsibility, adding apart from the support of Osun state government which has 49% equity in the Ilesa plant only, the management sited the plant in Osun because of relatively stable power supply that the state enjoys.
