A non-profit making organisation, the Assisting Caring and Empowering (ACE) Charity, Abuja has organized the second phase of its Business Empowerment Program for Women (BEPW) in the FCT.
The founder and chief executive officer of the organisation Kiki James said four women have begun a four months intensive exercise to become more skilled and knowledgeable personnel.
She said the ladies were carefully selected among other applicants because of their outstanding passion for tailoring and drives to become entrepreneurs.
“All beneficiaries will be given sewing machines they have been learning with along with certificates of participation,” she said.
Also, the organisation said it is partnering with The Future is Her, another organisation, to train ladies between the ages of 18 and 23 to code.
She said the initiative was due to the need to gradually bridge the huge gap between the ratios of men to women in technology.
“This initiative also aims to empower technological savvy women with the 21st-century skill necessary to compete with their male counterparts in technology. The three months training which will commence in January 2018 will afford the young ladies the skill needed to compete globally with their counterparts around the world and contribute to Nigeria’s technological development.
“The participants according to the organizer will enjoy the luxury of being presented with new laptops to practice and to master. We are into things that will lift the less privileged in the society and make them feel wanted. These are part of our contributions to address the plight of the underprivileged in the society,” James said.
