FG provides relief materials to flood-ravaged communities in Sokoto

The federal government has provided relief materials to victims of flood and windstorm in Sokoto State.

About 70 communities and thousands of people were affected by the disaster in Silame Local Government Area of the state.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Head of Operations, Sokoto, Dr. Kofo Soleye, who was represented by the Head of Unit, Relief and Rehabilitation, Usman AbdulAziz, stated that the support was expected to ameliorate the plight of the victims.

He added that necessary measures were taken to ensure a hitch free distribution exercise.

The distribution of relief materials was conducted in Silame Local Government Area by officials of the agency in the presence of top government officials.

The relief items distributed included 200 bags each of rice, maize and beans, 40 cans of vegetable oil, 200 bags of cement, 200 packets of nails and 100 bags of three-inch nails.

Others were 600 pieces of ceiling board, 200 bundles of roofing sheets, 400 pieces each of mattresses, blankets and mats.

Also speaking at the distribution ceremony, Mani Maishinku Katami, the member, representing Silame-Binji federal constituency, thanked the federal government for the intervention.

Some of the victims also commended the federal government for the intervention.
