FCT gives party offices 30 days to quit illegal plots

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Muhammad Musa Bello, has issued a 30-day quit notice to all political campaign offices occupying buildings located within residential plots and diplomatic zones in the territory.

The minister, in a publication yesterday signed by the Coordinator of Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), Umar Shuaibu, said owners of political offices illegally run on residential plots should relocate to plots designated for such purposes in the Abuja Master Plan.

He said the inappropriate conversion of residential buildings into political campaign offices undermined public safety, jeopardised comfort and conveniences.

“It also generates nuisance and traffic which threaten the peace of residents of the FCT.

“This illegal conversion is repugnant and inconsistent with the extant status, approved land use plan of the Federal Capital City (FCC), which further violates the city’s master plan.

“All concerned entities/groups are expected to quit the residential buildings they are occupying, revert to residential use and ensure compliance within 30 days of this publication,” the notice read.

Bello said any group that failed to comply would be sanctioned accordingly.
