The operatives of Enugu State Police Command have said that they are on the trail of a man who escaped after hacking to death his own son over a misunderstanding.
Daily Trust recalls that this happened less than two weeks after a 60-year-old man identified as one Hyacinth Ilo allegedly killed his son over cashew nut disagreement.
The Enugu State Police Command confirmed the tragidy which it said occurred in Obinetiti-Isikwe, Achi in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu state.
State police spokesman, Ebere Amaraizu who confirmed the incident in a statement he issued in Enugu on Wednesday said that a middle aged man identified as one Onyenwe Offor Ajah of Ameke Enu Oduma Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu state reportedly hacked his 38 year-old son Kenneth Ajah to death.
Amaraizu said that on 28/3/18 at about 4.30pm, the suspect had a misunderstanding over an unknown matter with the son at Orie Oduma Market in Aninri Local Government Area of the state.
According to Amaraizu, the alleged misunderstanding later caused a fight between father and son which led to the use of an object to father allegedly hitting his son, Kenneth on his head.
The spokesman said that “Kenneth, however, became unconscious and was later confirmed dead.”
He further said that the remains of the deceased had been deposited at Awgu District General Hospital Mortuary while plain clothed operatives have intensified manhunt on the fleeing suspect (father).
On the Oji River incident, a statement from Amaraizu, stated that the suspect allegedly had an argument with his son, Izuchukwu Ilo on that fateful morning.
Amaraizu said: “In the ensuing argument over cashew nut ownership between father and son, the suspect allegedly hit his son a stick on the back head and immediately, he slumped and died.
“On noticing that he has died, the father went further to bury him in a shallow grave.”
He said that investigation has commenced as the suspect has been arrested.
