A farmer in Gbako LGA of Niger State has been arraigned before a Minna magistrate’s court for allegedly killing his daughter-in-law.
Umar Wakili of Sabon Gida was said to have mistakenly killed Talatu Mohammed through accidental discharge of his Dane gun sometime in November last year.
According to the police First Information Report on the matter, Wakili had returned home that day from the farm on his motorcycle with the Dane gun on his shoulder.
The report said it was in the process of offloading firewood that the gun accidentally discharged with the bullet hitting the deceased in the chest and killing her on the spot.
The offence is punishable under Section 221 of the Penal Code Law.
The prosecuting police officer, Sergeant Mohammed Ilimi, told the court that investigation into the case is still in progress and prayed the court for adjournment to enable the police duplicate the case file for onward submission to the state’s Ministry of Justice for advice.
The presiding magistrate, Alhaji Hamza Muazu, therefore adjourned the case to March 7 for further mention and ordered the accused person to be remanded in prison custody.
