Eschew divisive tendencies – NTRC tells politicians

The Northern Traditional Ruler’s Council has called on politicians to eschew ethnic and religious prejudices in canvassing for support.

In a communiqué at the end of its General Assembly held in Kaduna, the council said it noted “With deep concern the continued use of religious and ethnic prejudices in politics and reminds politicians that a democratic society cannot be established through violence, injustice and impunity urging them to eschew all forms of divisive tendencies.”

The communiqué presented to newsmen in Abuja yesterday by Chairman, Coordinating Committee of the council, the Emir of Gummi, Justice Lawal Hassan also called for “Establishment of appropriate organs of government for an all encompassing stakeholders meeting to take a wholistic remedial view of all issues relating to peace and security such as the herdsmen/farmers conflicts throughout the country.”
