Gully erosion is threatening the existence of Duguri Community Primary School in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
Leader of the Community Alhaji Adamu Duguri Wakilin Bauchi disclosed this while receiving he received the Chairman of Universal Primary Education Board (SUBEB), Dr Abubakar Surumbai Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi , when he paid an inspection visit to primary and junior secondary schools in Duguri yesterday.
Alhaji Adamu said the school was one of the oldest Primary Schools that produced many sons and daughters of the state including the incumbent State Governor Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.
He said the major problem was the gully erosion , which worsened during the last rainy season, saying the erosion has eaten deep and was about to reach the blocks of classrooms unless the authorities intervene to save the situation.
He said the community was keen in learning and theyalways enroll their children into school, which caused congestion in the school and forced them to open a temporary school.
At Gajin Duguri, Alhaji Adamu said they have only one primary school, which also accommodates Junior and Senior Secondary schools.
He, therefore, urged the authorities to construct more classroom blocks to reduce the congestion.
The Chairman of SUBEB Dr Abubakar Surumbai Sheikh Dahiru pledged to construct a toilet and borehole in the school and blocks of classrooms on the temporary site of the extension.
He also promised to construct additional classrooms in Gaji to reduce the congestion in classrooms and urged the teachers to do more in providing quality education to their pupils.
The Chairman inspected primary schools in Tudun Gambo, Dan, Yelwan Duguri, Mainamaji , Gar and Dindima.
