The Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area in Enugu State, Mr. Alex Ugwu has said that his council will continue to ensure adequate security for all the people including herdsmen residing in the area.
Addressing participants at a stakeholders meeting held in the council secretariat at Nkwo Nike, Ugwu stated that he would make sure that all the people in the area live harmoniously.
He said he would enthrone the peaceful and harmonious co-existence between the natives and the herdsmen by holding a monthly meeting with all the stakeholders to review and assess activities of both parties.
He added that any observed misunderstanding would be quickly addressed within the council unless there was need to refer it to a higher authority.
South East Trust gathered that the meeting was summoned at the instance of the Chairman, who earlier promised to invite stakeholders to discuss issues between residents of the Harmony Estate, located in the area, and the herdsmen.
Our correspondent was informed that at the end of the meeting, all the parties were happy as the herdsmen grazing their cattle in the area are already well-known people.
The stakeholders comprised members of the Cattle Control Sub-committee, Chairman of the council and his key officials, representatives of farmers and residents of Harmony Estate.
The Chairman of Cattle Control Subcommitte, Sarki Sambo, promised to monitor the activities of herders on transit.
