The 17th Emir of Lafia, HRH Sidi Dauda Bage I, has charged parents to live up to their responsibility by ensuring that they send their children and wards to schools for national development.
He gave the charge at the closing ceremony of the second edition of this year’s Annual Qur’an Recitation competition, organised by the Association of Qur’anic Reciters Lafia, (RABIDAH) in Lafia, Nasarawa state.
He said: “When you give education to your children, you have empowered them and has planned their future lives. I would continue to give priority to both Islamic and Western education and consolidate on the achievements recorded by the late Emir of Lafia, Alhaji Isa Mustapha Agwai I for the benefit of young children and national development.”
He therefore, charged the participants to use the knowledge they have acquired before, during and after the competition.
Daily Trust learnt that the competition was organised with a view to enhance academic performance and to foster unity and understanding among Muslims faithful across the state.
It was attended by students from thirteen schools and their Coordinators from across the state.
Similarly, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, who was represented by the Wazirin Lafia, Aliyu Mohammed Ubandoma, lauded the organisers of the competition (RABIDAH) and charged them to do more towards educational development in the Lafia emirate council and the state at large.
Adama Umar Muhammad, from Hibaturrahman School won the first position in forty Hizb category (female category), while Muhammad Mustapha Yusuf, from Ta’alim School came first in the same category for male.
Maryam Abdulqadir, from Nurul-Haq and Mansura Muhammad from Ta’alim School also came first in the twenty Hizb and ten Hizb category respectively. The winners went away with cash prizes, among others.
The winners in female category are expected to represent the state at the RABIDAH National Qur’anic recitation competition holding Kano state later.
