The Emir of Jere in Kagarko local government area of Kaduna State, Dr. Sa’ad Usman has died at the age of 70.

Daily Trust gathered that the late emir had battled with seizures resulting from injuries he sustained after he was attacked by some locals within his domain in 2014.

He had received treatment in London before he returned to Nigeria exactly 6 years, three months ago and had continued to manage his health, according to family sources.

Dr. Usman was the husband of a former Minister of Finance during the Obasanjo administration and a former Senator representing Kaduna South, Esther Nenadi Usman.

A younger brother of the Emir, Aminu Jere had announced on social media yesterday that he had lost his brother in the person of Dr. Usman.

Our correspondents confirmed from the late Emir’s nephew, Adamu Ibrahim Jere that Dr. Usman died sometime around 2am yesterday adding that, “he had a major seizure yesterday (Tuesday). Between 5pm and 6pm, he was out of it and by 7pm he was stabilized but he died around 2am Wednesday morning.”

Until his death, the late emir, according to Ibrahim Jere, had been admitted at the ABU Teaching Hospital, Shika and later moved to Barrau Dikko Teaching hospital, Kaduna where he was managed for three months before he was recently discharged and returned home.

Our correspondent gathered that because of the lockdown in some parts of the country including Kaduna and the FCT, many dignitaries such as the emirs of Birnin Gwari, Suleja and Keffi had sent representatives to the funeral prayer which took place around 11:30am at Jere on Wednesday.

Daily Trust recalls that Dr. Sa’ad Usman had served as the Secretary of the Kaduna State Government, apart from other superior positions he had occupied in government circle. He was survived by four wives, 17 children and 14 grandchildren.
