The Emir of Sarkin Kabin Argungu, Alhaji Samaila Muhammadu Mera, has challenged University dons on practical agricultural research to embrace local farmers for proper adaptation.
The Royal Father challenged the academicians on Monday when he received in audience the Interim Management Committee of the newly established Federal University of Agriculture Zuru on a courtesy call in his palace in Argungu, Kebbi State.
He said lack of publicity for research outcomes has rendered the breakthrough made in the Nigerian universities mere theories, arguing that once a practical research work was carried out with the local farmers carried along, it is transformed into meaningful venture and adaptation becomes easier. The Emir assured of support for proper take up of the University, saying specialized Universities have a special role to play in boosting food security in the country.
Responding, the management committee chairman, Prof Abdullahi Abdu Zuru, told the royal father that they were in his place to seek support with a view to place the University on sound foundation.
