The Court of Appeal in Abuja has adjourned indefinitely hearing over the reordering of the 2019 general elections by the National Assembly.
Justice Abubakar Datti Yahaya adjourned the suit yesterday after listening to the submissions of lawyers in the matter. He however asked the lawyers to choose a date for the hearing.
Counsel to Accord Party, Wole Olanipekun (SAN), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Femi Falana (SAN) and the Attorney General of the Federation, Tijani Gazalli, had all asked the court to order the National Assembly to withdraw the appeal as the amendment of the section of the Electoral Bill on the election sequence is already before President Muhammadu Buhari for assent.
But counsel to the National Assembly, Joseph Daudu (SAN) had asked the court to hear the matter urgency in the matter, arguing that the lawmakers were not yet done with the amendment.
A Federal High Court in Abuja had in April nullified the amendment of Section 25 of the Electoral Act, which was passed in February by the National Assembly.
