El-Rufa’i disburses N3.3bn scholarships to schoolgirls, female teachers

Kaduna state governor, Malam Nasiru Ahmed El-Rufa’i, has said over N3.3billion will be disbursed to schoolgirls and female teachers in the state as scholarship.

He disclosed this while flagging off the 2018 disbursement of school Improvement grant, Female Teachers and Girl-Child Scholarships in the state.

The programme is under the World Bank Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and Nigeria Partnership for Education Project (NIPEP) support.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony that took place at LEA Unguwan Mu’azu Primary School, Kaduna, Governor El-Rufai, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Muhammed Bashir Sai’du, said the World Bank has been a supportive partner to the state government towards enhancing quality education particularly to girl-child education in the state.

He explained that 4,264 schools will receive the sum of N2.34billion as school improvement grants.

He added that 1,537 female teachers will receive N69.2million while 20,000 girls in schools will be given N900million as scholarships.

The state Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, Ja’afaru Ibrahim Sani, said with the intervention of the World Bank under the GPE/ Nigeria Partnership for Education Project they are confident that the milestone for attainment of education for all by 2030 would be achievable in the state.

The World Bank Task Team Leader for GPE/NIPEP, Dr. Adekola Olatunde mentioned Jigawa, Sokoto, Kano, Katsina and Kaduna states as beneficiaries of the project.
