A motorist, Suleiman, Yakubu, who spoke with our reporter yesterday, said there is need for police authorities to embark on a 24- hour joint police/army patrol during the period as most people will be travelling home for the celebration.
He said Manderegi, Anini, Piri, Gwako and Facu, all along the road, are dark spots where armed robbers always attack motorists. Another motorist, Joseph Chukwudi, said Manderegi village, which is located along the Abaji-Lokoja road is notorious for such incidences and called for a joint police/army patrol in the area.
“Some of these armed robbers emerge from bushes and rob passengers for just 10 to 20 minutes and they will disappear,” he said.
Reacting, Abaji Divisional Police Officer (DPO), James Idachaba, said the division has always been on intensive patrol with men of the police federal highway patrol in order to checkmate activities of armed robbers along the road.
He disclosed that the division had last week arrested a member of the suspected armed gang that has been terrorizing motorists especially at Manderegi village and the suspect has not only confessed to the crime but has provided the police with useful information on their activities.
