Heavy security presence at a Katsina High Court resumes sitting on Tuesday in a case between The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and former Katsina Governor Ibrahim Shema along side three others; Sani Hamisu Makana, Lawal Ahmad Safana and Ibrahim Lawal Dankaba.
The court had suspended hearing after an application filed since last year February by Shema’s counsel challenging the jurisdiction of the court before an Appeal court, Kaduna which moved up to the Supreme Court.
Today’s commencement of the matter followed the ruling of the Supreme Court that ruled otherwise.
At resume sitting, both Shema’s counsel Joseph Daudu SAN and EFCC’, Sam Ologunorisa, SAN drew the attension of the court to the ruling of the Supreme Court and seek it’s implementation.
Daudu then drew the attension of the court to the materials sought and not being properly addressed as both signatories and seal therein differs and sought another adjournment to enable correction.
A stand down for ten minutes was observed to effects same.
For Ologunorisa SAN, EFCC’s counsel said the court should refer back and continue on the substantive motion filed since last year and grant the relief sought therein as both parties have been duly served.
In his ruling, Justice Ibrahim Maikaita Bako after both counsels have agreed on the need for an adjournment to finalise all procedures fixed the 10, 11 and 12 of April for hearing on the substantive motion filed by the EFCC against the accused.
It could be recalled that the EFCC had Since February 21st , 2017 last year dragged the former Governor Shema and three others before Court on a twenty two count charge of Criminal Breach of Trust and forgery amounting to the tune of N11b.
