The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday staged a peaceful protest condemning the alleged attack on Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose.
Speaking to journalists at the state secretarial of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, State Publicity Secretary of the party, Chris Nehikhare who led the protesters warned against intimidation of voters and attempt to rig Saturday’s governorship election.
He said the party is out to condemn the alleged assault on Governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose by suspected agents of government.
He alleged the the security agents loyal to a particular political party are attemping to rig and write results for Saturday’s Ekiti State governorship election.
Nehikhare explained that the PDP as a family believes in the rule of law and wants a free, fair election and not war, adding that they will resist any attempt to rig and write results in the Ekiti governorship elections in favour of a particular political party.
While decrying the deployment of armed security personnel including over 30,000 policemen to Ekiti state, alleging that the motive behind the security presence is to create unnecessary tension as well as intimidating voters.
