The Ebonyi state governor, David Umahi, says t his government will, by the first week of next month, disburse a N3 billion naira loan to eligible rice farmers in the state.
He said this yesterday in Abakiliki through the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Moses Ogodoali Nomeh.
He said that the loan which was interest-free and would be given according to the capability of each farmer in the state.
“Government has mapped out N3 billion for this year as loan which will be given to rice farmers in the state. “You don’t need special recognition; however, we are believing God that by next Monday, we will start processing because we are targeting to disbursement by first week of April.
“This loan is meant for only people who are genuine rice farmers and would not entertain those who failed to return the one they took last year from who have paid up the last year from the state government,” he explained.
He noted that evaluation team from the state ministry of agriculture would inspect farmland of prospective applicant before issuance while he insisted that collateral would only be require from those seeking above N2 million.”
