Dr Hafiz Sulaiman Wali, an educationist and founder of the National Teachers Institute (NTI) Kaduna is dead.
Late Wali died yesterday at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital at the age of 81 after a brief illness.
His son, Aminu Hafiz Wali, who confirmed the death, said, “My late father had an infection about two weeks ago and was admitted at AKTH where he died today (yesterday) around 5:30.”
The deceased left behind a wife, four children and some grandchildren.
The late Wali was an elder brother to Professor Sadiq Suleiman Wali, a former chief physician to four heads of state.
Hafiz Wali was a renowned educationist who taught all his life. He was a staunch proponent of education through distance learning, hence his role in the establishment of the NTI.
He started as a teacher in Maiduguri at Yerwa Secondary School. Later, he was transferred to Idah Craft School in today’s Kogi State, and then to Mashi Craft School in Katsina State. He taught at Wudil Technical College and was later promoted to the rank of Inspector in Kaduna.
He later went to the US to do a Master’s degree in Systems Engineering.
