According to a statement from the group, they will observe the day in Abuja to commemorate the formation of the OAU and the African Union (AU), which succeeded it in 2002.
The statement recalled the objective of the AU of promoting an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in global arena. The group said OAU paved the way for its successor, the AU, which has been addressing the lingering issues of underdevelopment that are beyond the reach of any single African state to tackle.
“The AU is now promoting peace and security, intra-Africa trade and regional integration as drivers of sustainable human development in Africa,” the group said.
The Africa Group also condemned all threats to the progress of Africa including the Boko Haram terror attacks that have taken the lives of hundreds of innocent traders, civil servants and ordinary Nigerians.
