Davido shares journey to stardom +VIDEO

‘Assurance’ crooner Davido in a recent interview with popular New York based radio show ‘The Breakfast Club’ shared his journey to stardom.

The interview which saw the celebrated music act interact with hosts DJ Envy and Charmalagne did much to give insights into his upbringing and rise to fame.

We bring you some of those insights.

Davido was supposed to work for his father

Davido recalls that as an adolescent, he spent time with his father but did much to hide ‘his music side’ owing to his family’s conviction that he would work for his father after attaining significant academic heights.

He wanted to work behind the scenes

Davido spent two years (2008-2010) working behind the scenes as a producer who made demo tracks for artists.

He once made a demo for his cousin Mpizzle who was upcoming at the time but failed to record it.

A development which made Davido decide to record it himself after including lines from a rapper.

Davido was almost arrested by his father

It wasn’t long before Davido dropped out of school in America and returned to Nigeria to start Club gigs.

Reacting to the development, his billionaire father secured the services of policemen to arrest him, his production team and Ex-girlfriend.

Shortly after the commotion abated, Davido dropped his hit record “Dami Duro” which saw him shouted out to his Dad “E Ma Dami Duro Emi Omo Baba Lowo. (Don’t stop me because I’m the son of a rich Man).

Dami Duro made his dad billionaire friends love him as well as made his father negotiate a music career build-up that ran concurrently with Davido’s tertiary education at Babcock University.

He became an example to many rich kids

Davido admitted that his music hustle didn’t get much respect from Nigerians because his father was rich.

However, things took a reverse turn as they got to know him better by the years.

In addition he reveals that he has used his music platform to help artistes in Nigeria attain fame, adding that he became an example to other rich kids who wanted to do music.
