Danladi dissects NFF’s contract with Rohr, says it’s fair deal

As reactions continue to trail the new contract the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has offered Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr, the Chairman of Nasarawa United, Barrister Isaac Danladi has said the new conditions outlined in the contract are fair to both parties.

As the Franco-German football tactician’s contract is about to end, the football federation recently offered him a new contract but added conditions which require that he would reside in the country within the duration of the contract and take his salary in local currency.

Speaking to Daily Trust on Sunday, Danladi who doubles as the chairman of Nigeria Professional Football League Club Owners Association said there is no problem with the new contract because nobody would accept to go into a contract that is not mutually beneficial to both parties.

He, therefore, said the coach has been given a fair deal and enabling environment to work and succeed just as he maintained that there is nothing harsh about the contract.

“To be honest, the contract being offered Gernot Rohr is a fair one. There is nothing harsh about it. As a national team coach, you cannot work by proxy.

“You have to be around to help develop the game. Why are we playing football locally?. You have to monitor the league. In other climes you see national team coaches appearing in league venues and so on.

“If they are living outside the countries, how do they monitor the local players?. Apart from that, the economy is becoming so bastardized. We are in austerity period now.

“So getting foreign currency is also a problem and from what the NFF said, they will pay in local currency but the value will be the same as what he would have earned in foreign currency so the coach stands to lose nothing,” he explained.

Danladi is also of the view that since continuity breeds success, the coach who has achieved positive results with the Super Eagles deserves a new contract.

He said Rohr has succeeded in assembling a squad of young players who are ready to serve their fatherland with utmost dedication.

“I know some people are of the opinion that he does not deserve another contract but I am of the opinion that he should be given a fresh contract because we need continuity.

“No one can say that he has not achieved results. Maybe we can say he should do more. He has built the team around youthful players who are ready to serve the nation.

“So we should allow him to consolidate on the achievements recorded so far,” said the member of the recently dissolved technical committee of the NFF.
