Dr. Ibrahim Dankwambo, Governor of Gombe State and foster child for leadership distinctions in Nigeria, is no doubt a rare gem, a man known to be in a class of his own and we as a people must not shy away from the fact to our own detriment. Dankwambo is known and adjudged a performer per excellence. A fantastic Presidential material, the manner of man Nigeria needs at this trying and critical moment of its existence.
A world class accountant cum financial expert, Dr. Dankwambo is a purposeful, focused, detribalised and young, one Nigerians can entrust with governance and be rest assured of a quick turnaround in the nation’s fortunes via the deployment of sound skills at his disposal to manage men and resources for the greater good of Nigerians being an administrator and technocrat that he is.
He has demonstrated unusual abilities over the years, even while at Central Bank of Nigeria and was noticed by the then Gombe State Government who quickly appointed him the Accountant General of Gombe State and upon sighting his feats in Gombe State he was immediately snatched by the then led Federal Government of Obasanjo who made him Accountant General of the Federal Government, while in 2011 he heeded the call and invitation of his people to lead them as Executive Governor and was so elected.
His experience and level of education with a Ph.D in Financial Accounting, Ph.D in Financial Management, one time Accountant General of the state, one time Accountant General of the Federation and one time Accountant General of Africa. These have given him opportunities and the people of Gombe are tapping from the opportunities and his wealth of knowledge. Alhaji Ibrahim Dakwambo has been practicalizing all that he has studied while he has also taken advantage of all his educational qualifications to manage Gombe state resources.
Considering the federal allocation that comes to the state, Gombe is the second to the last on the list of the states. The state’s allocation is about the least in the federation but that doesn’t stop His Excellency from embarking on different projects. The governor has also constructed more than 500 kilometers of roads across the state capital alone while the government has connected many areas and states like Yola, Adamawa, Bauchi and Maiduguri. He has embarked on agricultural revolution in Gombe state by supplying agricultural implements, farm inputs, training of farmers and assisting the farmers with loans. So many things have been achieved so far.
Dr. Dankwambo worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria (1988-1999). He was Accountant General of Gombe State 1999-2005; Accountant General of the Federation 2005-2011. As the AGF, he chaired and served in very numerous committees and Board member of some Government parastatals at various times. He was the President/Chairman of the Forum of Accountants-General and Auditors – General in West Africa( FAAGWA), and had earlier, served as the Protem Secretary of the same organisation.
He was the co- Chairman, Standardisation of Federal, State and Local Government Accounts in Nigeria. Since his assumption of office as the Accountant General of the Federation, he was the Chairman of the Technical Sub-Committee of the Federation Account Allocation Committee, a committee saddled with the responsibility of determining how the national revenues are shared equitably amongst the three tiers of Governments. He was the Chairman of the Audit Committee of ECOWAS. He also chaired the review of Financial Regulations and other Financial Laws in Gombe.
There is no gainsaying the obvious that Dankwambo is simply the perfect man for the job at hand of Mr. President 2019 due to his vast experience as an administrator, a technocrat and a world class financial manager. What Dankwambo has achieved in Gombe is not mere. He has transformed Gombe State into a Mega City to the envy of other states in Nigeria with the meager resources at his disposal been the second to the least state in terms of federal allocation to states in Nigeria.
In taking political decisions, especially as it affects the leadership of a nation, it is only wise to choose a man who has what it takes to lead, Who has the right preparation for leadership office and it’s various challenges. For Dr. Dankwambo, his experience and level of education with a Ph.D in Financial Accounting, Ph.D in Financial Management, one time Accountant General of the state, one time Accountant General of the Federation and one time Accountant General of Africa.
These have given him opportunities and the people of Gombe are tapping from the opportunities and his wealth of knowledge.
