Dana Air gets B737-700 plane under Asky pact

Passengers stranded as Aviation unions disrupt MMA2 operations

Dana Air has finally introduced a Boeing 737-700 airplane to its fleet as part of its strategic partnership with Togolese Asky Airline.

The introduction of the aircraft to its fleet would assist it to operate flights between Lagos and Abuja with the inaugural flight operated on Monday.

Speaking to journalists shortly before the arrival of the aircraft at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, Chief Accountable Officer/Chief Executive Officer for Dana, Mr. Obi Mbanuzuo, said the partnership was a bold step towards achieving the airline’s strategic route and fleet expansion programme.

“With this partnership, we shall be adding some brand new aircraft to our fleet soon,” Mbanuzuo said, while clarifying that the partnership did not amount to giving fifth freedom for the foreign carrier.

The partnership gives Dana Air the opportunity to fly early flights to Abuja on an Asky aircraft with Dana call sign, Dana in-flight services and catering.

The aircraft provides a buffer for the airline as two of its McDonnell Douglas aircraft are undergoing maintenance check.

According to the CEO, the partnership is a complex wet lease operation where Asky will provide an aircraft and they might take it and put another in the system.

“We are glad to have been able to review our service to meet the demands of our teeming guests and we are also excited to announce the addition of a Boeing 737-700 aircraft from our partners, ASKY to our fleet,” he noted.
