Cyber security: Experts urge FG to create awareness on fraud

Cyber security experts have called on the federal government to create more awareness on the implication of cyber fraud, especially on global and national economies.

The experts made the call at the opening of a two-day Information Communication Technology (ICT) and cyber security conference themed, “ICT and Cyber Security: Building Capacity and Skills for the Digital”organised by QA Higher Education in Abuja. 

The Director, International Recruitment, QA Higher Education, Joy Musa said that building capability and skills, as well as awareness was critical because of the need to protect the data of government, financial institutions as well as citizens’ data.

Musa also pointed out that government of different nations lose millions of dollars globally due to threats in cyberspace. She said Nigeria must take cyber security very serious because people do not get their money back when they are attacked in the country.

The Director-General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) Isa Pantami, represented by Director, e-government development, regulation, Mr Vincent Olatunji, described cyber-security as a critical phenomenon putting all governments, private sector enterprises, civil society groups and Individuals on their toes.
