The Cross River Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) on Monday said it would soon promote 10,000 primary school teachers in the state public service.
Dr Stephen Odey, Chairman of the Board, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Calabar that promotion letters for the affected teachers were ready and would be released once approved.
“After the exercise, we now know that 10,000 out of the 14,000 primary school teachers across the state have been promoted, including some nannies and security men who have on their own obtained minimum of NCE.
“Some have been stagnated for a very long time, so a lot of clean up was done and those who deserved to be elevated were pushed up.
“What we are waiting for now is for His Excellency to look at it and in a week or two, we will release the list, ‘’Odey said.
He said that the board was determined to reposition the basic education sector in the state.
“Our major challenge is funding. We need chalks, writing materials, training of teachers and a whole lot more; but given the meagre resources of the state, it has not been easy.
“The governor has been doing his best, but I believe that with time we will completely reform and sanitize the basic education system in Cross River,‘’ he said.
