Crisis in Plateau communities over LG poll results

Following yesterday’s announcement of the local government elections result by the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLAISEC), crises have broken out in several communities.
Among the 13 LGAs where elections were conducted, 11 were announced and two were inconclusive, and the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) was declared winner in the 11 LGAs.
But the main opposition, the People’s Democratic Party rejected the result election, alleging gross irregularities.
PDP supporters protested; leading to burning of houses, destruction of property in Bassa, Mangu and Langtang North.
Governor Simon Lalong asked citizens not to do anything that might affect the peace of the state, stressing that anyone aggrieved by the result of the elections should approach the elections petition tribunal.
Meanwhile, the coalition of civil society accredited by PLASIEC to observe the elections said the process was generally peaceful, transparent and free.
