The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 7, comprises FCT, Niger and Kaduna states, Ballah M. Nasarawa, has said through excellent intelligence-led operations, crime indices and indicators have drastically reduced within the zone during the outgoing year.
He told journalists in Abuja during a meeting with commissioners under his zone that strategies have, however, been mapped out to stem the rising cases of kidnapping incidents in Niger State.
AIG Nasarawa informed that efforts would be intensified to sustain the current low level of crime rate by improving on the existing strategies against acts of terror and other heinous crimes.
He said the zone would build capacity of personnel on intelligence gathering, beat patrol, community consultations, partnership building and conflict resolution.
‘’We intend to ensure mass deployments of patrol teams along the highways, holding periodic meetings with religious leaders, traditional rulers, hoteliers and all other stakeholders on security issues and the role they are expected to play in that regard,’’ the AIG said.
He assured that in the coming year, emphasis would be further placed on community policing programme in every division in the zone and as well ensure diligent investigation and prosecution of cases charged to courts.
While congratulating Nigerians on the festive season, AIG Nasarawa urged them to celebrate within the ambit of law, adding that necessary measures have been put in place by the police to ensure hitch-free celebrations.
