The Victims Support Fund (VSF) Task Force on COVID-19 said a total of 50,000 households of displaced persons would receive food items to cushion the effects of lockdown order.
The Head of the Taskforce, VSF, Mrs. Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji,who handed over the materials to the Borno Deputy Governor, Hon. Umaru Khadafur in Maiduguri, said the items were meant for the vulnerable groups who do not have a means of livelihood.
She said that the food items included rice, beans, maize, vegetable oil and salt.
“We are also working with the vulnerable, institutions and agencies supporting the government as part of its contribution to national efforts in the fight against COVID-19.
The task force however charged Borno government to increase the number of hand-wash stations in the state as a preventive measure.
“Borno State is the only state which borders by three major countries that have COVID-19 cases, so we don’t want COVID-19 to penetrate Nigeria through Borno State, in addition to that Borno has huge number of displaced persons.
“We will like to call on the state government to increase public hand wash stations in the state since it is the only major preventive measure against the virus,” she said.
Responding, The State Deputy Governor, Hon. Umaru Khadafur, thanked the taskforce for the gesture and assured that the items would reach the desired target.
