COVID-19: Goodluck Jonathan, Army give palliatives to Nasarawa

A foundation run by former President Goodluck Jonathan, known as Goodluck Jonathan Foundation (GEF), has donated palliatives to Nasarawa State.

Immediate past governor of the state and Senator representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, led the foundation’s officials to present the items to Governor Abdullahi Sule.

According to Almakura, the distribution of the palliatives was ongoing in other states in the country as an effort to cushion the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

The food items donated includes; 2000 bags of rice, beans and maize.

Senator Al-Makura said that the gesture was to complement the COVID-19 response efforts of the state governments in the country.

He said that the COVID-19 pandemic had brought about a devastating impact on economies and governance around the world, thereby affecting the lives and livelihood of millions of citizens.

Governor Sule commended the gesture.

Army donated too

Also, the 4th Special Forces Command Headquarters of the Nigeria Army, Doma, has distributed food items to 300 vulnerable persons in Doma Local Government Area (LGA) of the state as part of activities to commemorate this year’s Army Day celebration.

Commander, 4th Special Forces Command, Major General Gazama Ali, presented the food items to the paramount ruler of Doma on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Yusuf Buratai, at the Emir’s palace in Doma town.

According to Maj. Gen. Ali, the distribution of the food items, which comprised bags of rice and cartons of beverages, was a directive of the Chief of Army Staff which are to be given to the vulnerables.

“As part of the activities to mark this year’s Army Day celebration; which was set aside to remember the day when the Nigeria Army shot its first salvor during the civil war to keep Nigeria one, the Chief of Army Staff directed that we distribute these food items to the vulnerables in our host community.

“The distribution of palliatives is not only the activity being carried out by the Special Forces Command to mark this year’s Army Day celebration, as the command was also involved in erosion control by way of cleaning blockages of drainages in Doma town in order to free the community from possible flooding.”

Receiving the palliatives, the paramount ruler of the area, the Andoma of Doma, Alhaji Aliyu Ogah Onawo, thanked the Chief of Army Staff for his gesture.
