Yemi Adetayo, of Arab Road, Kubwa was last Thursday, arraigned for allegedly torturing a 13-year-old girl, an offense of cruelty to a child, contrary to Section 238b of the Penal Code.
Police Prosecutor, Lukas Ephraim, had told the court that the accused, on March 16 and 23 willfully ill-treated a 13-year-old girl, who was in her custody by bartering her, flogging her with a wire and dipping her right wrist into hot water with the intent to cause her pain or body injury.
He further said the accused inflicted marks and injury on the back and wrist of the victim.
The accused had earlier pleaded not guilty, and was granted bail by the court following a request by the Defense counsel, Akajola, who asked the court to grant her bail on the ground that she is a nursing mother.
When the case came up in court yesterady, the prosecutor, however, said he received a letter dated April 1, written by the aunt of the victim, and addressed to the Divisional Police Officer, requesting that the case be terminated, having consulted with the parents of the victim and other family members.
The prosecutor, however requested that the accused enter a bond of oath to be of good behavior, and to take care of the victim’s medical bills as well as give a token to the guardian to enable her take the victim back to her parents.
The Magistrate, Rosemary Kanyip, struck out the case, ordering the accused to write an undertaken of good behavior and to take care of the medical bills of the victim to the later, as well as assist the guardian financially in sending the victim back to her parents.
She also instructed that the letter requesting for the termination of the case be photocopied and filled in the case file for proper documentation.
