Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has lost his mother Dolors Sala Carrió to the ravaging coronavirus.

The club announced this on it’s website on Monday evening.

The 82-years-old, who died in Manresa, Barcelona, had earlier contracted the coronavirus disease.

Spain’s coronavirus cases are put at 135,032 as at Monday afternoon with 13,055 deaths while 40,437 had recovered.

“The Manchester City family are devastated to report the death today of Pep’s mother Dolors Sala Carrió in Manresa, Barcelona after contracting Corona Virus.

“Everyone associated with the club sends their most heartfelt sympathy at this most distressing time to Pep, his family and all their friends,” the club said in a statement it released.

Manchester City also posted a tweet on their official twitter handle, condoling with Guardiola.

Guardiola is currently back at home in Barcelona following the outbreak, where he has been urging football fans to stay at home to reduce the spread of the deadly virus.

“We miss football,” he said. “We miss the life that we had a few days ago but now is the time to listen, to follow our scientists, doctors and nurses.

“You are my football family and we are going to do everything possible to make you feel better. We’ll come back from this stronger, better, kinder… and a little bit fatter. Stay inside, stay safe.”
