Corona virus: Ebonyi to quarantine returning Chinese

Ebonyi State government yesterday said it would quarantine all Chinese nationals returning from their annual New Year festival.

The government insisted that they would be allowed to work after 14 days of thorough medical examination against some dreaded communicable diseases such as Corona virus which has killed over 900 Chinese since its outbreak.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government/Coordinating Commissioner, Dr. Kenneth Ugbala.

Dr. Ugbala explained that the directive was in line with the State Government’s commitment towards provision of adequate safety both in security, health and wellbeing of people of the state.

He also asked the commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezurike to liaise with the State Ministry of Grants and Donor Agencies, Chairmen of the 13 LGAs to intensify campaigns on Lassa fever and other communicable diseases.

“All returning Chinese must submit to medical examination and not to be allowed to work until after 14 days from their arrival date to ensure that they are safe from the communicable disease.

“A major campaign and awareness creation for the communicable disease across the 140 Autonomous Communities in Ebonyi State which will take place thrice in the month of February and March and Twice subsequently would be held,” the statement said.
