Contractor, engineer docked for allegedly buying stolen armoured doors


The police on Wednesday arraigned a contractor, Ayuba Yari and civil engineer, Daniel Ibrahim, at a Life Camp Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly buying five stolen amoured security doors.

Yari and Ibrahim are charged with two counts of conspiracy and receiving stolen property.

The prosecution counsel, Peter Ejike, told the court that on Jan. 2, one Chijindu Orjianero of Atakpane Street Wuse II Abuja stole some amoured doors and sold same to the defendants for  N1.116m.

Ejike told the court that during police investigation the five doors were recovered from the defendants.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 79 and 317 of the Penal Code.

The Magistrate, Mrs Chinyere Nwecheonwu, admitted the defendants bail in the sum of N500, 000 each with one surety each in like sum.

Nwecheonwu said that the sureties must have reasonable means of livelihood and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, which must be verified by the prosecutor or police orderly.

She ordered that the sureties must present a valid identity card, National ID or international passport and a passport photographs to the court’s registrar.

The magistrate adjourned the case until Feb.24 for hearing. (NAN)
