A tussle has ensued over a vast land prominent businessman and philanthropist Ahmadu Chanchangi donated to Kinkinau, a community in Kaduna South local government area of Kaduna State.

Around 50 youths in Kinkinau community are protesting an attempt by the family of the philanthropist to reclaim a portion of the vast land donated to them 14 years ago.

A primary health facility named Amina Namadi Health Centre has since been built on the land, which became enmeshed in controversy when some children of the late Chanchangi.

Youths allege some of Chanchangi’s children in company of a police and a lawyer went to the site to break part of the fence where they intended to demarcate.

It was also gathered that the family came along with cement and a gate they intended to erect after the demarcation.

Our reporter also observed that construction work is currently going on at the health facility as it was gathered that it was one of the health facilities selected by the state government to be upgraded from primary to secondary facility.

The chairman of Kinkinau Welfare Forum, Auwal Abubakar said, “We decided to call the attention of media when we were told that the family of late Chanchangi came to divide our community hospital land into two. The land was donated by their late father.

“We are peace loving people and we don’t want anything that will bring problem between us and the family of the late philanthropist. We thought that his children should emulate their late father who was a cheerful giver and not for them to take over what he donated from the beneficiaries. Two years ago, similarly thing happened, when some politicians divided the land among themselves. We shouted out to the media and that was how they stopped. So, why are the family coming now to claim a land that was donated over 14years ago,” he queried.

On whether there was any written document, he said, “At that time the deceased told his representatives to go with the community to select any portion of land they desire to build a hospital and that land was chosen and it was given for that purpose. The local government

The Sarkin of Kinkinau, Alhaji Hudu Mohammed said the land which is about 20 plots was given to the community in 2003 by the deceased.

When DailyTrust approached one of the sons of the late Chanchangi, Usman Chanchangi, he said, “I have nothing to say. Go to court, the matter is already in court.”

Attempts to speak with the Rufai Chachangi one of the sons of the late philanthropist proved abortive as all his lines were not connecting.
