A non-governmental organization Coalition of Community Based Organization for African Youths (C-BOY), has called on the Kano state government to help complete the rehabilitation centre at the state branch of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Leader of the coalition, Pharmacist Ahmad Gana said the uncompleted rehabilitation centre, started by the Kwankwaso administration, would accommodate 150 drug addicts when completed.
Gana said, presently, the command had only 2 rooms menat for accommodating addicts for rehabilitation which were grossly inadequate when compared to population of the state.
“The 2 rooms have the capacity of containing 20 persons but at present provide accommodation for 21 drug addicts,” he said.
He said Kastina, Gombe and Bauchi states had established their rehabilitation centers, hence the need for Kano to follow suit.
Comrade Rabi Sa’idu Gidado, a member of the group, also called on the wealthy individuals to contribute their quota in the development of the rehabilitation centres as the fight against drug addiction was not for government alone.
“The addicts are the future leaders, therefore we should not allow them to destroy their lives through drug addiction” she added
