A witness said the accident, which happened at about 12:34 am, involved a Toyota Avalon car with registration number CU 468 RSH, when its driver lost control while on speed and crashed into a ditch.
He said the car somersaulted thrice and that officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), who were alerted immediately arrived at the scene to evacuate the victims and the dead child to hospital.
When contacted, Abaji unit commander of the FRSC, Moses Audu, confirmed the accident in which he said a female child died on the spot.
The FRSC official attributed the accident to speed violation and loss of control.
He said the remains of the child have been deposited at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital at Gwagwalada, while the four injured victims were taken to Abaji General Hospital for medical attention.
Audu also disclosed that seven persons were seriously injured in another accident which occurred on Saturday night at Gada-Biyu village along the Abuja-Lokoja highway.
The FRSC commander said the accident happened around 8:39 pm when the driver of an unmarked trailer truck overtook another vehicle dangerously and collided with a Toyota commuter bus with registration number XN 460 ABC.
He said seven passengers sustained serious injuries in the accident and were taken to Abaji General Hospital for medical attention.
Audu added that the truck driver, after causing the accident, drove away.
When our reporter visited the Accident /Emergency unit of Abaji General Hospital yesterday morning, seven of the injured victims including three females were seen receiving treatment.
A nurse at the hospital said three other victims will be referred to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital as a result of severity of injuries they sustained.
